Now, TEFL brings you to see the Vimanmek Mansion, a building built with teak!
Vimanmek Mansion, also known as the Cloud Palace, was built in 1900, during the reign of the Fifth King Chulalongkorn, and was originally located on Sichang Island, but later moved to the suburbs of Bangkok. The main body of the palace is in the shape of an "L" with mortise and tenon joints. The palace is divided into three levels, with 19 staircases for people of different status, leading to 81 rooms, of which only 31 are currently open to the public.

Since it is called the Teak Palace, the palace is naturally made entirely of Thai teak wood. The palace itself has a story to tell. According to legend, the Fifth Emperor was particularly fond of his son, but this son was born weak and sick, and the doctors had no good solution. Later, a master instructed the Fifth Emperor to build a teak palace on Sichang Island for the son to recuperate. Due to the peaceful environment of Sichang Island and the fragrance of the teak palace, the prince gradually got better after staying for a while. The Fifth Emperor was so pleased to hear this that he decided to bring the son back to Bangkok to live. However, leaving the elegant environment of Sichang Island, the son died soon after the recurrence of his old illness. The Fifth Emperor was so heartbroken that he ordered the palace to be moved to Bangkok, which is why only the ruins of the teak palace on Sichang Island remain today.

In modern times, the teak palace has taken on the role of a museum, with pictures of the life of the Fifth King and photographs of the palace from different periods on the façade for the world to see. In addition, visitors can also see various ancient palace items such as silverware, ceramics, crystal, ancient typewriters, telescopes and weapons. Among these are a set of ivory of huge size, Italian custom-made crystal tableware, an ancient piano made in England, a Chinese Jingdezhen tea set designed by the Fifth Emperor himself, and other artifacts that can only be seen here. But unfortunately, this palace has been demolished in 2019, the reason for the demolition is still unknown, leaving the world only endless reverie and regret.
